This module only applies to students starting in February. It is presented during an introductionary week just before the start of the classes.
This week consists of an introduction to LUCA School of Arts. Students will be given an info session from the international office a the students services agency, including a guided tour through our Brussels campuses (campus Sint Lukas and campus Narafi).
Furthermore, with our visual arts department students will dive deep into Belgium’s culture (film, theatre, dance). Visits to musea, theatre etc are very likely to happen during that week.

PRACTICE - 27 ECTS @NARAFI
PRACTICE - 27 ECTS @NARAFI
At campus Narafi, students will join practical classes. Most classes are focused around ‘doing’ and ‘creating’ work. The coordinator of the class will help exchange students in English.
WORKSHOPS - Lennert Deprettere

This module only applies to students staying a full year at Narafi.
Workshops is a module designed to give students the freedom to explore everything Belgium has to offer in terms of exhibitions, events, photo fairs, workshops, extra curriculum courses, etc …
It’s meant to introduce students to the contemporary art and photography scene.
We encourage students to go out and explore musea etc. A few of the recurring photo events are Paris Photo, Breda Photo, Unseen Amsterdam, De Donkere Kamer, ….

STUDIO PRACTICE II B
9 ECTS
This module consists of 2 submodules.
Module 1: Students will have to choose between either Still life (3ECTS) or Documentary (3 ECTS).
Module 2: Fashion and portraiture (6 ECTS).
If the student’s knowledge of studio photography is limited we will encourage to study the theory through the book ‘Light: Science and Magic’ by Fil Hunter, Steven Biver and Paul Fuqua, Focal Press, 5th edition.
STILL LIFE (3 ECTS)
In the module Still life, we encourage students to reflect on all facets of a directed, staged image. Therefore we focus on developing an efficient working methodology where students learn how to deal with all aspects of image making: technically, content wise and form.
A basic knowledge of safe operation of photographic gear (camera, studio lights, light meter, software,….) is essential but will be further explored.
Students will participate at the project week ‘product photography on location’ in Mechelen as part of the curriculum.

FASHION & PORTRAITURE (3 ECTS)
In the module Fashion and portraiture, students will team up with each other in order to mimic a real life fashion or portrait production in- and outside a professional studio environment. The focus is on artificial light, correct lighting techniques, composition, working with models and post-production.
Students will participate in the ‘fashion week’ which is a project week around portrait and fashion photography. It is held off-campus and runs for a week. Accommodation and catering is provided for (at a minimal cost). Participation is mandatory.

DOCUMENTARY (3 ECTS)
In the module Documentary photography, students will be encouraged to search and develop their own visual and photographic language through a documentary approach. The focus will be on storytelling and working around a series of compelling images. Research and analysis are key in this module.
At the end of the module students will be able to tell stories through images in such a way that it grabs the attention of viewers.

BACHELORPROEF
15 ECTS
During the full course of the 2nd semester the student will design, develop and execute a photo and/or video project. At the end the student will present the project at the 3rd year exhibition called ‘graduation expo’, together with the 3rd year students. This includes building up the exhibition space from scratch, together with all exhibiting students.

VIDEO 1 - Ian Segal
3 ECTS
This class will take students through the basics of a video production.
From time lapse over basic video setups to a more complex video production – including sound and lighting – this module will guide you through all the parameters to obtain the footage to do so. Adobe Premiere will help you to get the fruit of your work out into this world.
